Workers produce hemp spinning products for export to South Korea. They do this in a modern textile workshop at Enda Mashida Century Technology Company in east China’s Jiangxi Province. In 2020, the company’s exports to South Korea will reach 32.34 million US dollars. Hence, its foreign trade sales will achieve steady growth.
Recently, Gao Yong, secretary-general of China National Textile Industry Council (CNTAC), said that China already achieved its goal of becoming a textile power after years of unremitting efforts. This was coming from the perspective of comprehensive strength. And the original set of leading indicators of textile power has been completed.
It has been ten years since China’s textile industry began to conceive of building itself into a textile power. They compiled the Program for a Textile Power. The Chinese Academy of Engineering once organized many academicians and experts. The aim is to compare and analyze China’s 26 manufacturing industries and manufacturing powers. From the perspectives of scale, innovation ability, economic benefits, and industrial structure, the conclusion is that five industries are at the world’s advanced level. And the textile trade is one of the leading industries.
At present, China’s textile industry accounts for more than 50% of the world’s total. Its chemical fiber production accounts for 70% of the world’s total. And its trade accounts for one-third of the world’s total. In addition, China has a comprehensive industrial chain and a complete product variety from industrial integrity. China’s manufacturing and equipment level of fiber raw materials, yarn weaving, clothing, and home textiles have mostly reached the advanced international level in manufacturing.
Gao Yong said that from the perspective of comprehensive strength, the original set of main indicators of textile power had been basically achieved.
“In 2020, the epidemic of Covid-19 spread around the world. It leads to a contraction in market demand. A decline in major operating indicators of the textile industry, unexpected counter-trend growth in the export industry driven by anti-epidemic materials such as masks.” Gao Yong added that in the case of a year-on-year decline in total volume, the economic operation of the textile industry would show a bottoming out in 2020. The domestic market will continue to pick up, and the export competitiveness will be released steadily.
